Which Asthma Treatments Are Safest?

asthma treatThe US drug manufacturers Glenmark Generics have recalled large batches of Montelukast Sodium tablets which are used to treat chronic asthma and prophylaxis. The Food and Drug Administration has withdrawn nearly 592,000 bottles of these tablets due an off-odour which indicates that the drugs have been affected by contamination or have deteriorated. After multiple complaints about a musty or mouldy scent to the drugs, the FDA has initiated the recall – there were also trace levels of Tribromoanisole (TBA) and Trichloroanisole (TCA) discovered as well.

Asthma is a disease which affects your respiratory system and is made worse by the presence of pollutants or chemicals in the air, dust and mould spores. It is thought that the condition is caused by a combination of genetic and environmental influences. The symptoms include wheezing, shortness of breath and coughing, and can be fatal if not treated correctly as it restricts the ability to breathe. It’s thought that exercise can actually help to reduce your symptoms as it helps to open up the lungs to aid breathing, though you should be careful which exercises you choose, as some may exacerbate the problem. It’s advised that you speak to your GP if you want to increase your exercise so as to do it as safely as possible.

Likewise, a balanced diet that’s low in dairy and sugar can also help – some people find that certain foods will make your problem worse, so keep a food diary to see if this is the case with your symptoms. Those who are suffering with asthma should make sure that they get plenty of fresh air, as well as lowering the amount of dust and mould spores in the home by allowing plenty of fresh air to flow through the home. This will help lower the risk of an attack.
